Occasionally losing sight of yourself is inevitable following a chronic diagnosis. It happens to the best of us. I know I would be a completely different person had my genetic conditions never presented themselves in adolescence.

The Girl With the Five Lads began the wonderful hashtag, #besidesmydiagnosis. It is a series of questions for those participating to answer as a reminder of who we are in the present. The people our chronic illnesses have shaped us into often get lost amidst the the comparisons of our healthy selves. Check out her blog to view the questions and participate!

1. #besidesmydiagnosis the three things about my appearance that I love in the mirror?

Favorite Past Time // The Originals on Hulu
Why must this question be first?! I have always been fond of the color of my eyes (blue), as well as the color of my hair. clothes count? I like to think I have a knack for putting cute outfits together.

2. #besidesmydiagnosis the things I have read most are?

I read practically anything available to me, especially since purchasing a Kindle. Lately I have been loving the Anne of Green Gables series. And my overall favorite genre is historical fiction.

3. #besidesmydiagnosis my favourite comfort foods are?

When able to eat my favorite foods were: cookies, khadrawy dates, and pizza (vegan, of course)!

4. #besidesmydiagnosis my favourite past times are?

This one is easy! I thoroughly enjoy knitting, blogging, and reading. I also love all day Netflix and Hulu binges as much as the next gal.

Accomplishment // Graduation with Grandparent
Accomplishment // Graduation with Silvino
 5. #besidesmydiagnosis my biggest accomplishment since illness is?

Although my current education plans are completely in ruins due to illness, graduating high school valedictorian is a great accomplishment while being ill/hospitalized/etc all 4 years.

6. #besidesmydiagnosis I feel my best quality is?

My best quality, to me, is my sense of determination. I can be quite persistent when I truly care about something.

7. #besidesmydiagnosis my motto/mantra to live by?

I have lots! The two that come to mind at the moment are:

"Live in love"  - which should not require explanation.

"Life is how it is not how it was."

Coming from the Bright Eyes song Classic Cars, these lyrics are ones I try to live by. They are fitting to this post, actually. Never is it healthy to remain fixed on the past. Utilize those past experiences to improve the present and move on.

played on Words With Friends
8. #besidesmydiagnosis I would love to travel to?

If I ever got the opportunity to travel in the US, I would choose Colorado, California, or Oregon. If out of country, Germany sounds lovely!

9. #besidesmydiagnosis my guilty pleasure is?

This is a difficult one too! Aside from jamming out to embarrassing tunes on occasion (any Justin Timberlake fans out there?), my unhealthy obsession with Words With Friends or puzzles could be considered guilty pleasures.

10. #besidesmydiagnosis I have many dreams and ambitions such as?

My dreams and ambitions are constantly changing. To put it simply, they are this: to live. Whether that means travel, obtaining a college degree, becoming a published author, starting a non-profit, or living a quiet life with friends and family - who knows - the possibilities of dreams are endless.

Anyways, thanks for reading! This hashtag movement is a fun idea for a good purpose!
